Why are these projects highlighted? These projects are specifically effective in working with students in poverty. They develop meaningful relationships and give students purpose and voice. Conversation Spaces, Sidewalk Talk, and Adopt a Freshie! are examples of students sharing Eric Jensen’s “Gaudy Goals”. Students are motivated by dreams and hopes. When students in poverty can identify their dreams, they have a clearer vision of their purpose in school.
